About the Congress
The World Congress of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (WCSMO), organized by the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO), has established itself since 1995 as the leading international forum for presenting and discussing advances in optimization methods and applications across engineering and applied sciences.
With a history of biennial meetings across different continents, recent editions include:
- 2011 – Shizuoka, Japan
- 2013 – Orlando, USA
- 2015 – Sydney, Australia
- 2017 – Braunschweig, Germany
- 2019 – Beijing, China
- 2023 – Cork, Ireland
- 2025 – Kobe, Japan
The congress typically gathers more than 600 delegates from over 30 countries.
WCSMO-17 in Brazil
Bringing the congress to South America is consistent with WCSMO’s tradition of alternating venues among continents to strengthen its global character. Brazil has an established academic and research community in structural and multidisciplinary optimization, with active contributions to previous editions of WCSMO and related conferences.
Holding the congress in Foz do Iguaçu will facilitate the participation of Latin American researchers and students, while continuing to attract strong representation from Europe, Asia, North America, and other parts of the world.
We expect 400 to 600 participants from across the globe, including academics, industry professionals, and students.
